The George M. Sheldrick Prize for Contributions to Structural Science recognizes outstanding scientific contributions in the field of structural sciences, with an emphasis on innovative methods, algorithms, or software. This prize celebrates non-tenured researchers who push the boundaries of molecular structure analysis by creating new tools or refining existing ones to solve complex structural problems. The prize is established in memory of Professor George M. Sheldrick (1942-2025) who was one of the most cited scientists in the field of molecular structure determination.
Geographical scope: the Prize is global with no geographical limitations.
This recognition comes with a certificate, a monetary award of $3000, and payment of registration fee * to attend the IUCr congress. The laureates are expected to attend the IUCr congress and deliver a keynote lecture.
The triannual prize is bestowed during the IUCr Congress years starting in 2026.
The Education and Workforce Development Committee shall be responsible for soliciting nominations, reviewing candidates, and selecting the awardee.
Nominations: Deadline is January 1st. The nominations should be sent via applications to the Education and Workforce committee. Questions about the award can be addressed to the committee, or AUC chair.
